James Fernando has been praised by World Music Report as a “prodigiously gifted composer and virtuoso pianist,” and described by Jazz Sensibilities as “limitless in his ability to articulate his ideas.” Honduran-born tap dancer Gerson Lanza brings electrifying rhythm and expressive movement to the stage, earning acclaim from The New York Times for his “brilliant speed and precision.” Together, they’ve captivated audiences at leading performing arts centers and universities across the country, including Strathmore and the Kennedy Center.

James and Gerson first connected in 2021 during an artist residency at Strathmore, a premier performing arts center in the Washington, DC area. They discovered an immediate artistic chemistry and began inviting each other into their respective projects. Their collaboration quickly deepened as they started composing music and choreography in tandem, while also developing a rich improvisational dialogue. Their growing body of work has taken them on tour across the U.S., where they continue to develop and share this unique interdisciplinary approach. Beyond the stage, they are also passionate educators, leading workshops in the communities they visit.

Keys and Feet offers a performance experience unlike any other. Rooted in jazz and Afro-Latin traditions and inspired by legends like Sammy Davis Jr., Chucho Valdés, and Duke Ellington, the show blends playful spontaneity with commanding athleticism. Featuring both original compositions and inventive takes on classic works, Keys and Feet brings together two masterful artists in a powerful and unforgettable exchange of music and movement.
